ULTIMATE (frisbee)

Ultimate is a team sport played with a flying disc. The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc to a player in the opposing end zone, similar to an end zone in American football or the in-goal area in rugby. Players may not run with the disc, and must keep a pivot while holding the disc.

While originally called ultimate frisbee, it is now officially called ultimate in many areas because Frisbee is registered as a trademark, albeit genericized, for the line of discs made by the Wham-O toy company. In 2008, there were 4.9 million Ultimate players in the US

Rules:

The basic rules of ultimate are as follows:

The two teams begin at opposite end zones and try to advance the disc to the other end zone. The disc is put into play by one team throwing off to the other team. This throw-off is called the pull. Once in play, the disc may be moved only by passing, so the player holding the disc must stay put (but may pivot on one foot). If a team successfully advances the disc into the end zone, that team scores a point, the teams swap directions, and the team that scored pulls to the other team.

If a pass is incomplete, intercepted, or caught out of bounds, the opposing team immediately gains possession and tries to move the disc in the other direction. Another way to change possession is that the player holding the disc, called the thrower, has a limited time to throw the disc: A defensive player within 3 m - 10 feet of the thrower may loudly count to 10 (by seconds), and if the disc is not thrown by the 'T' of ten, the defense immediately gains possession. This defensive player is called the marker, and the audible count is called the stall count.

The game is played until an end condition is reached, typically a time limit or when one team reaches a certain number of points.

A regulation game features teams of 7 players each, with substitutions allowed between points. A USA Ultimate regulation field is 120 yards (110m) by 40 yards (37m), including end zones each 25 yards (23m) deep. In USA Ultimate Club Championship Series (2012) the endzone length was shortened to 20 yards (18m) to allow for consistency with WFDF rules used in international competition and to increase the number of field sites that can be used for ultimate.

Ultimate Frisbee

History

The original "frisbee" was nothing more than a tin pie plate from the Frisbie Pie Company located in New Haven, CT. It was in the early 1920s that students from Yale started playing catch with these pie tins. Truck drivers for the Frisbie company began throwing the pie tins to passersby, and it eventually became a major activity introduced to soldiers around the country during WWII.[6] In 1948, a man by the name of Fred Morrison developed a plastic version of the disc which he called the Flying Saucer, and then in 1951, created an improvised version known as the Pluto Platter. The Wham-O Manufacturing Company bought the patent from Morrison in 1955 and renamed it the Frisbee. The game of Ultimate, derived from Fred Morrison's original product, was invented by Jared Kass and Joel Silver, along with Jonny Hines and Buzzy Hellring, in 1967 at Columbia High School, located in Maplewood, NJ. Its collegiate roots can be traced back to the first ever game played between Rutgers and Princeton in 1972.

more about the movie :

Beca Mitchell (Anna Kendrick), newly arrived freshman at Barden University, has no desire to attend college, but she is forced to do so by her father (John Benjamin Hickey), a professor at the university. Wishing she could instead move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music making, Beca takes up an internship at the school radio station, where she meets fellow freshman Jesse Swanson (Skylar Astin), who develops a crush on her. When Beca's father discovers she has not been attending classes, he comes to her with a proposition: if she joins a club and still does not want to remain at college after a year, he will allow and pay for Beca to move to Los Angeles. After some persuasion from group leader Chloe Beale (Brittany Snow), she reluctantly joins the all-girl a cappella group Barden Bellas. Aubrey Posen (Anna Camp), another group leader doesn't initially approve of recruiting Beca, but yields nonetheless due to a desperate need for members and Beca's own talent. Beca joins alongside a group of other women who do not fit the Bellas' typical mold: the misunderstood Cynthia-Rose (Ester Dean), Stacie Conrad (Alexis Knapp), the quiet Lilly Onakuramara (Hana Mae Lee), and the eccentric Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson).
At group rehearsals, Aubrey's uptight and controlling nature gets on the nerves of the other girls, especially Beca. She is constantly critical and insists that they use the same set list the Bellas have been using for years. Meanwhile, Beca continues hanging out with Jesse, who has joined the Treblemakers, the Bellas' main rival. After learning that Beca doesn't like movies, Jesse tries to get Beca to watch The Breakfast Club.

Meanwhile, the Bellas participate in the southeastern regional competition at Carolina University. In spite of their distasteful and old set list, the group manages to place second, which gives them the bid to semi-finals. A brief scuffle after the competition leads to Beca's arrest by the police. Jesse tries to help by calling Beca's father, which infuriates Beca and turns their budding friendship sour.

A series of complications during the road trip to semi-finals forces the Bellas to get a ride from the Treblemakers, led by Bumper Allen (Adam DeVine), and some smack talk ensues.
Once at the semi-finals, Beca notices how bored the audience is with Aubrey's traditional and overused arrangement, so she provides an impromptu back-up. The Bellas come in third in the competition behind the Treblemakers and the Footnotes; even though the audience seemed to enjoy Beca's remix, Aubrey becomes furious and yells at Beca, who quits the group. When the Footnotes are disqualified after the discovery that their lead singer is still a high school student, the Bellas are called to the national competition in their place. The Bellas get back together after returning from spring break, with the notable exception of Beca.

During this time, Beca begins working as a DJ at the Barden radio station, playing her music on the overnight shift while also steadily distancing herself from Jesse. Upon finding a copy of The Breakfast Club and watching it on her own, however, she realizes how much she misses the Bellas and Jesse. Her father convinces her to rejoin the Bellas, whom she finds falling apart during rehearsal. After having a group heart-to-heart conversation, the Bellas appoint Beca as their group leader and decide to adopt Beca's more modern and original music style. Meanwhile, Bumper leaves the Treblemakers after being offered a job as a back-up singer for John Mayer. With Nationals approaching and the group short a member, Jesse becomes the new group leader and persuades the Trebles to allow Benji (Ben Platt), Jesse's roommate, to join the group in Bumper's place.

At the a cappella national competition at the Lincoln Center, the Bellas sing a piece arranged by Beca. After their performance, Beca and Jesse reunite with a kiss. Six months later, auditions are beginning for the new year while the Treblemakers and Bellas are preparing to select new members for their groups; Jesse and Benji are shown sitting at a desk in the audition hall, followed by Beca and the Barden Bellas, along with their trophy from nationals.

Cap Snapback

The snapback hat is said to have been around since the 1950s[citation needed] It does not have a specific origin, though it contains many features of the distinguished baseball hat as well as the perpetual ceremonial hat (given to players at champion trophy presentations). In 1954, baseball players in the United States adapted the new-modeled snapback hat, which had a rim that was flat instead of bent (baseball hat) as a part of their uniform.[citation needed] It became more and more trendy in fashion, which eventually led to teams embed their colors on the hats.[citation needed] Snapbacks were produced and sold in the 1960's through 1987 , the snap was patented by frank k lipschutz of louisville cap company in the 1950's and he controlled 100% of the snapback business and controlled the popular designs.[citation needed] Popular hip-hop artists including Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube, during the early 1990s, promoted snapbacks and increased their popularity through their album covers, music videos, and movies, starting a new trend. Today, the snapback hat is part of various sports merchandise contracts and is a part of many sports uniforms.

Design

The height of the hat is varied, usually starting from tip of the ear and continuing to the top of the head, depending on how it’s worn.[citation needed] A bendable rim with about 6-8 seams as a featured detail around the rim is typical. A sticker on the rim often represents the brand name with six equally spaced air holes at the top of the hat on each triangular piece of fabric. There is a small button at the top of the hat, where the fabric joins. The logo at the front of the hat is usually outlined in a different colour to the primary hat fabric to create contrast. The sides are usually designed with smaller logos or none at all. The back of the hat usually has a miniature logo, similar to the one at the front. Underneath this logo, there’s a snap fastener, which the user can use to adjust the size of the hat to fit their head. This type of hat has far less distinction than baseball caps.

Hip-hop culture

The hip-hop industry has greatly promoted snapbacks. Snapbacks are advertised in music videos, lyrics, images, interviews, billboards etc. In recent years celebrities have used snapbacks as a key feature[opinion] to their fashion trends. More and more fans have adapted this tendency and the snapback usage has increased. Hip-hop artists Chris Brown and Tyga have promoted snapbacks in both their lyrics and music video for the song Snapbacks Back. Furthermore, rapper Wiz Khalifa has featured them in his fashion trends and in most of his music videos, such as in his song Roll Up. Other rappers such as Big Sean, Mac Miller and Jay-Z are also known for wearing snapbacks.[citation needed]

Whatsapp

IN 2009, when two ex-Yahoo software engineers, Brian Acton and Jan Koum launched a start-up firm called WhatsApp, they barely knew their instant messaging application would sound the death knell for short message service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) businesses of our local mobile network operators (MNOs).

How it works

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes, those phones can all message each other! Because WhatsApp Messenger uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing, there is no cost to message and stay in touch with your friends.
In addition to basic messaging WhatsApp users can create groups, send each other unlimited images, video and audio media messages.
